How can our gardens adapt to climate change?
It hardly rained this spring and this has caused big problems for farmers and gardeners. Many plants can not cope with such dry conditions but some can. Culpeper Community Garden has created a new drought resistant garden as it's always said: good gardeners work with the environment not against it.
The new garden has been created as part of Islington's Climate Change Adaption Strategy and is mainly planted using common and easily available plants so anyone can make their own. A dilapidated part of the garden, which was subject to vandalism and anti-social behaviour, has been freshly landscaped creating a welcoming new space which is already popular with visitors.
Workshops on drought resistant gardening and plants are available for local schools and community groups along with information sheets and resources.
Culpeper Community Garden is part of the Open Garden Squares Weekend and will be open from 10am – 4pm on Sunday the 12th of June.
Entry is free and there will be homemade refreshments! Visit us
