The central role of children in the garden continues. There are eight small plots set aside for local children and in recent years we have worked with a number of local schools. An art project for 7 to 14 year olds runs each summer, which culminates in a public party and celebration of the children’s achievements. Children flock to the garden at all times of year, most especially in the spring when the frogs and then tadpoles are a sight to behold in the ponds.
Recently a Garden Worker has been employed on a part time basis to develop work with children and young People. The tradition of working with excluded children and young people continues as links have been made young people from Project 16, the modern equivalent of the White Lion Free School.
School visits to the garden are welcome and can be supported by the garden workers. The garden provides a perfect resource for any curriculum area from the science of plants and growing, art and creative writing, through to recycling and citizenship.
